New watercolor sketches

I worked on a few watercolor sketches today. I've been trying to perfect using layers of tissue paper like a substitute for washes of watercolor, or to make interesting textures and layers. I have an intaglio print from  2009 that I used silver and blue tissue paper as a chine colle under printing, and I thought it looked pretty neat, so I wanted to experiment with multiple layers of tissue. It's really subtle, and these photos don't really do the work justice, but here is a little look-see.

These little domes have layers of drawing (the geometric lines of the dome structure) drawn on several layers of tissue, then glued down in layers over light water color wash.

This big dome has the negative space between the structure of the dome filled in with two slightly different blueish tones. A layer of plain tissue is layered over the top and more watercolor added.

Hopefully these are a good start to more paintings and prints.

New Drypoint, Amorphic teepee cover, Rainy days

I've been working to try to get over my uninspired hump all day.
I've been making this copper plate dry point on a sort of lacey looking geo-dome.

The image is really hard to see because I haven't inked it yet. You can sort of make out the scratched in lines right above the glare from my computer screen.
I took a picture of the sketches I made that illustrate the sort of look I'm going for.

I hope I can pull a proof of this by tomorrow evening. I've also been working today on crocheting a similar type of form to make a new, sculptural cover for my teepee. If you haven't see my teepee in my studio, it's currently covered in camo print. I bought it from a nice lady on craigslist and I haven't switched up the cover yet.

That camo print just won't do. Here is the bud of the crochet amophic teepee cover.

I'm still feeling a little frustrated with myself, but now I'm chalking it up to the day. It's been gray and rainy all day. I think that making things today will probably help my mood. I am my own best champion and my own worst critic.

Killing time productively with Flickr!

I was brain storming today, thinking of things I could make to supplement my print work for my thesis. I was also killing a little time because my right ring finger has a huge blister on it from carving a wood block, and I needed a little recoup time.
So I was trolling through flickr, and found a couple of AMAZING home structures. I hope you enjoy these as much as I do.
Just to tempt you, tomorrow will be an update with pictures from a group trip I'm taking with friends to a pumpkin patch (same farm as the apple picking!) and hopefully some adorable plushy houses I'm working on.

Back to the flickr finds:

this house is just blocks from my parents house in kansas city! look at those windows!
