Country Music and the Muppets!

Dolly Parton at the Grand Ole Opry, 1969

Dolly Parton at the Grand Ole Opry, 1969

I love Dolly Parton. She reminds me to the humble country people I come from.
This video makes me want to bust out my old acoustic guitar and sing along.

Hair Wrap!

I got a hair wrap! I feel so nineties chic.
My friend at my work study job, Madeleine, used to do hair wraps for a job in an amusement park...
So she did a few super quick in between shift change.
I picked out super easter-y pink and minty green for my wrap today.
All of my lady co-workers got one (about five of us in total) and we fully expect to start a trend at art school

New watercolor sketches

I worked on a few watercolor sketches today. I've been trying to perfect using layers of tissue paper like a substitute for washes of watercolor, or to make interesting textures and layers. I have an intaglio print from  2009 that I used silver and blue tissue paper as a chine colle under printing, and I thought it looked pretty neat, so I wanted to experiment with multiple layers of tissue. It's really subtle, and these photos don't really do the work justice, but here is a little look-see.

These little domes have layers of drawing (the geometric lines of the dome structure) drawn on several layers of tissue, then glued down in layers over light water color wash.

This big dome has the negative space between the structure of the dome filled in with two slightly different blueish tones. A layer of plain tissue is layered over the top and more watercolor added.

Hopefully these are a good start to more paintings and prints.

Working Hard or Hardly working.

Working hard or hardly working?
I've spent most of today sketching and searching for inspiration. I know that this is always the way I start prints and get ideas, but I still feel that I was a little unproductive today.
I still have a few more hours in my studio before I call today quits... so maybe I'll get something major done and prove to myself that I got something done. It's been a little bit of a rough transition from Spring Break.

Back from Disney

I'm back from Disney and I have SO much work to do. This weekend is completely dedicated to printing and getting ready for the BMA print fair. It's next weekend, and I still have a little work to do a few new prints. Having seven days off was nice, but my nose is to the grind stone now.
I'm going to be a happy, productive person... or at least thats what I'm telling myself.

Oscar Party!

Last Sunday night, my boyfriend Colin and I hosted a small Oscar Party.
I really love entertaining and feeding people, so I jumped at the chance to plan a pun filled Oscar nominee themed menu.
A Serious Man-whiches (BBQ Brisket on little poppy buns)
The Lovely Bone-less Chicken Drumettes and Sauce
The Hurt Guacker (Guacamole)
A Single Man-go Salsa
Pretzles: Based on the novel 'Push' by Sapphire (these were delish dark chocolate pretzels from trader joes!)
My sweet friend Alyssa blogged about the party here. She's posing here with my friend Robin.

Tomorrow morning Colin and I are off to Disney World!
I get my first ever real Spring Break Vacation!

I am and will be a busy, busy bee...

I have so many things coming up in March and April...
  • Colin and I are heading to Disney next Friday the 12th.
  • Southern Graphics is happening in Philly the next week after that March 24-28th.
  • Philagrafica is going on in Philadelphia too.
  • I have the BMA print fair and a department show all to get ready to hang by the end of the month.
  • Oh, and on top of that, my thesis boards are at the end of April!

My life is getting so hectic! Where has all my time gone?
I am also currently looking for and applying for jobs. Who knew writing a good cover letter was so hard?
I officially have 74 days, 11 hours, 12 minutes and 30 seconds until commencement. Thats 74 days of work work work work work. My head is full to the brim with my constantly lengthening to-do list.
I can't tell you how excited I am to take a little vacation to Florida. I've never been to Disney, even though my Mom's family is from central Florida. She just always thought it was super commercial and never wanted to take me there. Unlike me, Colin has been loads of times, and so this vacation is a little less of an adventure for him.
We get to have dinner with my Grandpa and two Aunts and an Uncle while we are there. Colin will finally understand where I get my loud, talkative boisterous personality from after meeting some of the Keirnan clan. I haven't seen this part of my family since before I left for college, so a reunion is in order for sure.
I'm taking that week off from my worries, so I can come back to Baltimore ready to rock out a lot of prints.
